EMC Sports - The Carleton Place Canadians broke out of a slump to edge the Brockville Braves 2-1 at home Sunday.

The win moves the Canadians back into second place in the Robinson Division of the Central Canada Junior A Hockey League.

Carleton Place, once a solid first in the division, had fallen to third Friday with a 4-1 loss to the Braves in Brockville.

The Canadians responded well Sunday, scoring just over a minute after Brockville's Mike Skakum broke the ice on the power-play at 13:20 of the second period. Anthony McVeigh scored shorthanded to tie the game on set-ups from Dustin Darou and Stephen Bayliss.

Darou then set up Brock Edwards with the winning goal at the 18-minute mark of the second stanza. Carleton Place kept the pressure on, outshooting Brockville 46-25 in the game that attracted about 500 fans to the Carleton Place arena. Joe Yetman earned the win in the Canadians net.

Game day featured many special events in support of the Carleton Place Kraft Hockeyville effort.

The win gives the Canadians 76 points, three behind the Cornwall Colts and one ahead of Brockville in the tight three-way race. All three teams have played 53 games, with nine games left in the regular schedule.

Luke Edwards scored Carleton Place's only goal in the 4-1 loss to Brockville last Friday.

Carleton Place hosts Cornwall in a crucial game on Family Day (Monday, Feb. 20) at 2 p.m. It's the third game of a four-game homestand for the Canadians.

Hawkesbury comes to town this Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Pembroke visits Friday, Feb. 24 at 7:45 p.m.
