Merrickville Public Library offering tax tips for seniors this Saturday

EMC News - Has tax time got you stressed and confused? The Merrickville Public Library is hosting a Tax Tips for Seniors seminar this Saturday, Feb. 18 at 10:30 a.m.

This information seminar, delivered by John Harris, a Certified Management Consultant who has assisted more than 300 people in filing their tax returns over the last three years, will address the topics that need to be understood by most seniors whose primary income source is pensions. This will include the income slips, the basic form and the four key "schedules."

It will also cover other common deductions such as medical expenses, charitable donations, the age amount, the Pension Income amount and the Ontario Seniors Home Property Tax grant.

More complex tax issues such as pension splitting, the Disability amount, and the advisability of contributing to the CPP and/or Registered Retirement Savings Plans after the age of 65 will also be touched on. Handouts will be provided.
