Arklan's Pennies for Peace campaign a big success

EMC News - Wildcat spirit has struck again!

For the second year in a row, Arklan Community Public School in Carleton Place has raised a generous amount of money during their Pennies for Peace campaign - $685 dollars to be exact.

Pennies for Peace is an organization that helps raise money to build schools and provide education and literacy programs for children in impoverished countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Arklan's Grade 6 class was responsible for organizing the event, inspired by the best selling book, Three Cups of Tea, by Greg Mortenson.

The enthusiastic students counted and rolled hundreds and hundreds of pennies to help bring hope to regions where terrorist organizations recruit uneducated, illiterate children. In these communities, one penny can buy a pencil and empower a child to read, write and learn. Arklan would like to thank all the students, staff and families that participated in this worthwhile endeavour.
