Ambassador fundraises for bowl-a-thon
Posted Feb 2, 2012 By EMC NewsEMC Events - On Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11, Curtis Brown, a Leeds and South Grenville Easter Seals Ambassador, will attempt to reach his fundraising goal of $3,500 at the seventh annual Elgin Bowl-a-thon for Easter Seals Kids at the Elgin Bowling Lanes. Along with his friends, Curtis is encouraging local community members and bowling enthusiasts to show their support for children with physical disabilities by participating in this event. All proceeds from the Bowl-a-thon will help send children and youth with physical disabilities to Easter Seals Camp Merrywood, located on Big Rideau Lake in Perth.
Participants must raise $30 in pledges or $150 as a team of five and register for one of three scheduled bowling shifts: Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. or Saturday from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Local businesses have generously donated incentive prizes that will be given out at each shift.
"The Annual Bowl-a-thon is a fun, community event for the entire family, and proceeds go towards a great cause," said Megan Bomberry, Senior Development Officer, Easter Seals Ontario. "We're thrilled to be continuing this fundraising event for the seventh year in a row so that we are able to send more kids to Easter Seals camp."
The Annual Bowl-a-thon is an integral part of Easter Seals' annual fundraising and awareness campaign. Since its inception, the annual Bowl-a-thon event has raised more than $10,000 to help send Easter Seals kids to camp. The cost to send one child to fully accessible camp for 10 days is $2,000.
Easter Seals Ontario is now in its 90th year of helping children and youth with physical disabilities. Since 1922, Easter Seals Ontario has provided families of children with physical disabilities with financial assistance for expensive mobility equipment and communication devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, braces, as well as fully accessible Easter Seals camps, and funding for alternative recreational programs.
