EMC News - A 17-year-old Arnprior male was charged with a Highway Traffic Act offence after a car was seen in the ditch near Pakenham by a Lanark OPP officer.

The officer noticed the vehicle in the east ditch of County Road 29 on Saturday evening (Jan. 28). The officer checked the damage to the vehicle and spoke with the youth.

It was discovered he was the vehicle driver not only when the vehicle left the highway but also earlier in the evening when the vehicle struck and damaged a County Road sign in Pakenham. The driver had not reported the collision, say police.

As a result, a Provincial Offence Notice was issued to the driver for failing to report an accident.

The out-of-court penalty upon conviction of the Highway Traffic Act offense is a fine of $110 and three demerit points.
