EMC Sports - This Sunday area residents can chow down on some KD to power up Carleton Place's chances of becoming Kraft Hockeyville 2012.

The luncheon and kick-off event will be held at the Carleton Place arena's upper hall t on Jan. 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Mayor Wendy LeBlanc, and other boosters from council will be on hand with members of the CP Hockeyville committee. The dignitaries will be there not only to show their support for Carleton Place's bid, but also to take part in the free Kraft Dinner luncheon.

Families are encouraged to come and learn about the competition, Carleton Place's plan to win. Participants can also enter a free draw for a chance to shoot the puck for $10,000. There will also be a free draw to see another winning team in action, our own Ottawa Senators.

What tops free food? Why, free swag, of course, with a free draw for a Kraft products basket.

The event will be sponsored by the CP Hockeyville committee, town council and Leatherworks Catering.

At council's meeting on Jan. 17, LeBlanc officially proclaimed this Sunday the official Carleton Place Kraft Hockeyville 2012 kick off date and requested members of the community participate in this contest.

This won't be the only Hockeyville event this winter though. Win or lose, the committee encourages everyone to lace up their skates - and dancing shoes later on - for Hockey Day in Carleton Place at the Carleton Place arena on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Play outdoor pick-up hockey and learn some pointers from members of the Carleton Place Jr. A Canadians. There will also be a free public skate session from 2 to 3 p.m. Younger people, and the young at heart, can also make a Hockeyville craft.

Later that night at the arena, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. enjoy the Carleton Place for Hockeyville celebration dance in the upper hall. Tickets are $5 at the door and music will be provided by Doubleback.

The next day, Sunday, Feb. 12, watch the Carleton Place Jr. A Canadians take on the Brockville Braves at 3 p.m. at the CP arena. The game will include visits by special guests and the $10,000 shoot-a-puck competition.

Before the game, meet some very special NHL guest stars, and get an autograph and photo taken with your favourite player, as well as take part in a question and answer session.

The winning community receives $100,000 towards an arena upgrade, an NHL pre-season game played at that arena, and an NHL open team practice. Also, the community hosts a Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.

Other ways to show support for the drive: like the group on Facebook, following them on Twitter, and visit hockeyville.carletonplace.com.
