EMC News - When Savannah Alicia-Ann Phillips of Lanark gets older she'll ring in the year by celebrating her birthday at the same time.

After her mother laboured for a little more than 12 hours, the baby girl became the first infant born in 2012 at the Almonte General Hospital (AGH) in Mississippi Mills.

At 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, proud parents Jen Sinclair and Gord Phillips welcomed their seven-pound, 11-ounce daughter to the family.

Little Savannah is the couple's first child, however, she has two older siblings who "can't wait to meet her." Gord has two daughters - Tiffennie (13) and Kylie (8) - from an earlier marriage.

"They are really excited," he told the EMC.

As you might imagine mom and dad are just delighted with their New Year's baby.

"It's pretty neat to have the New Year's Day baby," said Jen. " My due date was Dec. 31 so I thought it could happen."

It was Saturday night around 10 p.m. when she went into labour. She was at home and getting ready for bed. By 10:30 p.m. Jen and Gord left for AGH, arriving at approximately 11 p.m.

"Labour was constant and painful," said Jen.

Dr. Christiane Deschenes delivered Savannah, and there were no "serious problems."

"It's nice to finally see and meet her," said Gord.

"I am absolutely in love," said Jen, her cheeks tinged rose and her hair swept into a ponytail. "I am so excited to be a mom, and I can't wait to take her home. Hopefully, we can leave on Tuesday."

Savannah's middle name, Alicia-Ann is very special.

"Alicia runs in my family," said a beaming Jen, "and Ann runs in Gord's family."

Mother and father want to thank the staff at AGH, as well as family and friends for their support.

"The doctor and nurses were absolutely wonderful," said Jen. "We couldn't have asked for anything better. They were nice and great!"

In Lanark County, both AGH and the Smiths Falls site of Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital (PSFDH) offer obstetrical services.

Maycie-Jennifer Linton, daughter of Natasha Street and Chris Linton of Smiths Falls, was the first baby born at the PSFDH. She arrived at 9:05 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 2.

Last year, AGH's first baby of the year was a boy.

Everett Northcote Reader was born at 6:31 a.m. on Jan. 1 to Sheri and Dan Reader.
