Exhilarating quilt exhibition at MVTM

Posted Jul 29, 2010 By EMC News

EMC Events - This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum (MVTM) and the 20th anniversary of the Almonte Crazy Quilters. In commemoration of both events, a colourful, exhilarating quilt exhibition is now on display in the Norah Rosamond Hughes Gallery, the first floor of the MVTM.

The quilts represent 20 years of work by the Almonte Crazy Quilters: Pauline Rorwick, Phyliss Kendall, Mary Lawson, Marion Elgood, Margaret Coady, Anne Wheatley, Marie Dunn, Marie Spriggs, Margaret Donato, Barbara Cotterill, Louis Ridgen, Dianna Gale, Sandy McManus, Helen Halpenny, Anne Tokaruk, Betty Barrie, Jean Kidziun, Lorna Drummond, and Mimi Edmondson.

Hand-stitched quilts, quilts made from ties, and art quilts all decorate the walls and frames of the gallery.

One quilt - 'Autumn Oak Leaves' - has been donated by the quilters and will be raffled off as a fundraiser for the museum. Tickets are available at the MVTM until Sept. 15.

The MVTM is located at 3 Rosamond St. E. in Almonte. Gallery hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5. For additional information, visit www.textilemuseum.mississippimills.com, or contact curator Michael Rikley-Lancaster at 613-256-3754 or mvtm@magma.ca.
