Congratulations to the Carleton Place WinterLights Committee for their first entry in the Communities in Bloom WinterLights program!
Carleton Place is an attractive and historic town within commuting distance from Ottawa. In addition to the new housing developments and the box stores on the edge of town, it has long established businesses and services in the beautiful town centre. There are schools, shops, and recreation and cultural facilities to meet all the needs of a busy community. The residents of Carleton Place have a history of looking after each other and the tradition continues with a variety of projects and programs that aid the less fortunate at Christmas and throughout the year. At Christmas, churches, service clubs, businesses, institutions and individuals cooperate to provide food hampers and gifts, prepare special Christmas dinners, collect mitts on a mitten tree, and fill hundreds of shoe boxes for the overseas Samaritan's Purse Campaign. All year long the Hungry Lunch Café is operated once a week with food donated by fine restaurants to provide a delicious lunch for the needy and community members - where all come together. The Food Bank is well organized and adequately supported by the community to assist many families whenever the need arises.
