EMC News - The Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital (CPDMH) Foundation is thrilled to announce that The Exchange has given $1,500 towards the ongoing equipment needs of the hospital.

"Our ability to give is made possible through the continual generosity of the community," stated June McNeely, a volunteer with The Exchange. "There are many organizations in our area that need help and we try to lend a hand wherever we can."

The Exchange - located at 18 Allan St., is a community thrift store with a mandate to support needy organizations throughout Carleton Place and the surrounding area. Items sold in the store, which are donated by local residents, are sorted and priced by nine volunteers associated with The Exchange.

"We really appreciate this gift from The Exchange," stated Norma Hamilton, president of the CPDMH Foundation. "I know each of the volunteers work very hard to raise funds for the good of the community, and I am very pleased that The Exchange included our hospital in its recipient list this year."

Over the past 34 years, The Exchange has donated more than $400,000 to community organizations and groups such as the Carleton Place Library, Canadian Cancer Society, Food Basket Program, CHEO and the Therapeutic Riding Program. This year, The Exchange donated $1,000 to Doctors Without Boarders who are aiding with the relief effort in Haiti. Previously, The Exchange has given $6,000 to the hospital and has purchased a duck and two leaves on the Auxiliary's 'River of Life'.

"We are regular supporters of the hospital because it's local and benefits so many members of our community," stated Jean Keddy, a volunteer with The Exchange. "We know it's a good cause and we're very happy to do our part to help the hospital purchase the equipment it needs to provide quality care to the community."

The hours of operation for The Exchange are Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
