The gym at Nationview Public School was a flurry of activity as the school hosted the third annual Dundas Schools Sport Stacking Tournament on Feb. 23. Students from five area schools participated in the event. Nationview Grade 5 student Megan Derick was the top stacker from the school, with two firsts and a second to win the top prize for Grade 5 competitors.
More than 150 students from five area elementary schools participated in the tournament. Students stacked special plastic cups in specified formations as quickly as possible. Each student earned points for their team based on their best time in three events. Students stacked cups in a 3-3-3 formation, 3-6-3 formation, and the cycle of 3-6-3, 6-6, and 1-10-1.
Winchester's team 1 won the title as the best team thanks to the stacking abilities of Adrianna VanBreugal, Zach Gutknecht, Ashley Williams, Samantha Benoit, Lindsay Cummins and Morgan Smith. Winchester fielded three teams in the event.
The top stacker in each grade category won medals for their performances. St. Mary-St. Cecilia student Ethan Cummins took first-place honours in Grade 1. He came in seventh, first and second in his three competitions. Winchester's Grace Campbell was the top Grade 2 stacker. She won two competitions and finished second in the other.
Morrisburg's Cameryn Broad was the best third-grade student. She had first, second and fifth place finishes. Samantha Benoit from Winchester, was the class of Grade 4 with a first and two second place finishes.
