Round the World dinner series features Japanese cuisine

Posted Mar 4, 2010 By Hilary Barrett

EMC Events - For the fourth meal in the Round the World on a Dinner Plate series, McDonalds Corners-Elphin Recreation and Arts (MERA) is planning a Family Style Sit-down Japanese Dinner.

Taking place at the MERA Schoolhouse on Friday, March 5, the event will commence at 6:15 p.m. sharp.

Our chef, Ingrid Gosselin, will be serving a Japanese Beef Rice Bowl called 'Gyudon' with samples of various Makizushi and Nigirizushi on a platter for two (14 pieces). The meal will conclude with a small amount of fresh fruit, and desserts made by MERA members will be available.

A special feature is hot Green Tea poured over ice cubes, and we will follow Japanese custom by offering all diners hot towelettes before they eat. Bring chopsticks, if you have them. The meal will cost $7 per person, children under five eat free. The Persian meal was a sell out, so to ensure your place please reserve.

For this meal there are only 35 places, so make sure you come in good time.

This year MERA is offering a Spring Break Art Class for Children at the MERA Schoolhouse on Tuesday, March 16 from 2 - 3:30 p.m. We are very fortunate to have artist Kristen Bjornerud currently staying here in Elphin and she will teach a special afternoon art class for children from 5 - 10 years.

The cost is $5 a child and includes supplies and snacks. Please register before Friday, March 12.

For adults, there is still time to register for two of our winter workshops - Decorative Oil Cloths with Jean Dunning on Saturday, March 6 and Introduction to Painting with Watercolours, with Donna Napstrek, on Saturday, March 13.

Each workshop takes place at the MERA Schoolhouse from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the cost is $35 for MERA members and $50 for non-members.

Please pre-register.
